Hello 2007

It's been a long time since I posted, so thought it was about time I updated things a little. So much has happened.......

Christmas and New Year have been and gone for another year. Both were very busy for us, lots of school shows, the Green Triangle Electronics Christmas show as well as catching up with friends. The boys finished school - they have their new classes for 2007 set and are reasonably happy even though neither of them have their best friends with them.

Christmas was great. It started VERY early, as Ryan woke at 2 am and was too scared to go back to sleep. He hopped into bed with me but after 30 minutes of sniffing and wriggling, Shayne and I swapped places - at least I got some sleep. Ryan was awake again at 5am but Shayne managed to keep him in bed until 5.45am. He then woke Bowen up (with some difficulty) and Christmas began. The boys were very spoilt getting Nintendo DS's, games and accessory kit from Santa, as well as art and craft kits, Star Wars Monopoly (Ryan) and Deal or No Deal (Bowen), the obligatory stockings and Star Wars masks. From us they got new cricket bats, Star Wars figures and Star Wars novels (do you see the trend here??). I got lucky too with a great watch, pasta maker and scrapbooking trolley. Shayne scored aftershave and new clothes. The boys requested pancakes for breakfast and by 8am Shayne and I were back in bed for a nap!!!!

Lunch was a hectic affair at Tim and Linda's with the Hoskinging and we had a much quieter tea with Carol and Dennis.

Boxing Day started with brunch at Joy's (yum) and then a quick shopping expedition to get the wrapping paper and cards for next Christmas (something I always do). I have to admit we were very lazy the rest of the day watching the cricket and playing with our new toys.

We also had a busy time over new year. On the 29th we took Graham and Janine out to golf to play in the ambrose at Port MacDonnell. It was a fun time even though we struggled to stay upright in the wind. Surprisingly we came second!!! Janine's first golf trophy!

The 30th was SIL's (the other, older Debbie Hosking) 50th birthday party on the Nelson Endeavour. We had a great time although I wasn't too sure about the new party drink we had to skull - half a glass of red bull with a shot glass of some German liqueur dropped into it - real headache material I think..............

Ryan and Bowen spent the night with our good friends Bobby and Janet. They took them to the movies to see Happy Feet and then back to their house to have a sleepover in their tent. The boys loved it and I think Bobby and Janet are still recovering!!! Another brunch at Carol's the next morning was also fun.

We had New Year's at our house. It was a hot day so we could eat outside and some played tennis and swam. Yummy food and wine and good company made it a good night. Even Ryan managed to see in the New Year and managed to actually sleep in the next morning.

Sport's Day

Oops, it's taken me awhile to update with the Sport's Day results. Both boys had a great day. Ryan came first in the Championship sprints and Bowen came third in his age group. A fantastic achievement as only the fastest boy runner in their age group and house get to run. They both also loved all the other events. Ryan competed in the Primary section for the first time which kept Nan and I busy trying to watch all events across two ovals. Who says Sport's Day is just for the kids???? Their team Keegan came second overall. I've included some pictures to show you what they got up to.

Proud Mum (and Dad) Moment

Well yesterday my 2 boys both won their year level marathons for Sport's Day. They did a great job running so far and were pretty impressed with themselves when they crossed the line first. I'll add some photos on the weekend.

It's the official Sport's Day today and both are competing in the sprints for their team. I will let you know how they go!

My Baby is Engaged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the last couple of months, Bowen has been quite concerned that he doesn't know who to marry - a big problem for a just 6 year old apparently.

Well the problem was solved yesterday as he came home from school and announced that he had played with Emilie S today and she was the one he was going to marry. He is quite lucky as it seems that she likes him too. So the future is now planned. I'm too scared to ask when this is all supposed to take place. I don't think I'm ready to be a mother-in-law just yet!

My First Post

Welcome to the world of the Hoskings. It's about time I got serious about blogging so now's the time. Be prepared to hear about all the happenings around here, that mostly seem to relate to the boy's sport!

Ryan is currently playing school basketball on Friday nights. He plays in an Year 3 competition against other Year 3 boys. Bowen has also decided to take up basketball - mainly because Ryan is but also a couple of his friends also play so now he does too. He also does quite well and was very excited to shoot 3 goals in the mini game they had at the end of their training. Although he wasn't happy that he was only allowed to guard the other number 10 and not all the other players as well. I'm finding getting basketball photos a challenge as my boys don't stand still and most of the photos are blurry. But I have managed to include a couple for you.
Ryan is also into school cricket on Saturday mornings. I LOVE cricket because they stand still and I can get some excellent scrappable moments. The bad news is that it takes a LONG time to play. The kids are getting better but it's hysterical when they are fielding that after a ball in bowled they insist on passing the ball to each team member before bowling again. Ryan hit 14 off one over on Saturday which he was very proud of. Unfortunately the only photo I got of that over was the one where he was bowled. I was not popular.
